Born in April 1969 at Limoges,
Nathalie Proumen spent her entire tomboy childhood dreaming of
faraway places, painting, drawing and playing on the banks of the
river Vienne. For her, there was only one path, that which would
lead her to the School of Fine Arts. Unfortunately, Destiny sometimes
reasons in ways which Reason ignores. Obliged to renounce her dreams
temporarily, she directed herself toward the study of international
commerce, taking her far from the smells of oils, charcoal, chalk
dust and that of wet clay.
Occasionaly, however, reality nourrishes itself with the power
of dreams. In 1993, she escaped her native Limousin to settle
in Toulouse, where she immediately found work in a business bank.
Here, on the banks of the Garonne, anything and everything seemed
possible. Being entirely self-taught and a little vengeful, she
haunted the evening courses at the School of Fine Arts in the
drawing and painting section, which culminated in a sculpting
and modelling workshop. At the same time, consecrating herself
fully to sculpture. Her technique refined, her gest became sure
and generous. Her regard fell upon Africa, the world at large,
man, on the instants of life.
